Banger, after banger, after banger! 2021 absolutely spoiled us with pure high-level violence, from the return of some old legends to the rise of some new prospects. To end the year we see some new names in the rankings that are worth a mention and some that I seriously don't understand. Who are the new guys on the block? Here's a couple highlights, hit the ranking tab to see the full division standings.
VALENTINA SHEVCHENKO #1 Pound For Pound
We knew the day would come but we didn't know how long it'd take! With Julianna Peña defeating Amanda Nunes by way of Rear-Naked Choke in the 2nd round at UFC 269, Valentina "The Bullet" Shevchenko breaks through and finally gets the wave past Amanda for the title of LB for LB QUEEN. Don't expect her to move down anytime soon as she rides a 8 fight win streak as well as being 9 for 10 in her last 10 with a win over Julianna Peña and her only loss in that run being Amanda Nunes in 2017. The Bullet is here to stay.
SEAN "THE SUGA SHOW" O'MALLEY #12 BANTAMWEIGHT
Here he is! It's go time for the Suga Show and that a fact! O'Malley has quickly become one the UFC's biggest stars in the last couple of years and impressively enough, he's been doing it without fighting any ranked opponents, aside from Chito but we won't discuss such. He constantly battles public scrutiny for not accepting real challenges and merely fighting easy opponents but that wasn't the case in the least bit in his last fight as he dismembered a battle tested warrior in Raulian Paiva in the first round to propel himself into the rankings and silence doubters. He was placed at #13 initially but after Ricky Simon just knocked out Raphael Assuncao he was bumped to #12 with Ricky following directly behind him at #13.
MATEUSZ GAMROT #12 LIGHTWEIGHT
The Gamrot Knee! This guy just splattered Diego Ferreira rib-cage with a flying knee straight out of hell that immediately forced a tap and sent this stallion soaring into the rankings, Sniping Diego's #13 spot and putting him right in the mix of all the juicy big named lightweight matchups ahead. A great place to be for a peaking beast who's got plenty of experience in the octagon backed by time as a champion of KSW for a few defenses before signed o take on the quest for UFC gold a couple years back. This guy is a problem and the next matchup he gets will be a mega major lazer fiesto. Stay tuned.
KHAMZAT CHIMAEV #11 WELTERWEIGHT
This guy is not hype, this guy is not rumors, this guy is a CAT 17, Stage 12, sound the alarm and call the swat team type of FUCK YOU UP. This man will strangle any person in his division right now and probably a decent amount of the ranked Light-Heavy's right now too. If you find yourself betting against him in any atmosphere, take a second and repent on your own stupidity and just don't... EVER. This guy "Hasn't been tested" but just trust the geeks when we tell you that the sky is only a dick hair of the limit for this STALLION.
TOM ASPINALL #10 HEAVYWEIGHT
To end the year we get some recognition for Tom Aspinall who jumps in and up the Heavyweight rankings at #10 in the division. Aspinall represents the new school era of Heavyweights making their run through the division right now. This new school era is known for their speed and mobility as they have been seen to have great success outpacing these heavier opponents and picking to choose timely shots as they occur to disrupt the brutal rhythm the heavyweight division has known for so long, which is to stand and bang. Tom will be tested greatly in 2022 as he only see big named opponents in front of him, look to see him flourish in a 5 round setting and really deliver some epic highlight real splatters in the near future.
